Old Nurse -  Posted: September 10, 2009 Mohawk Watush, you are being quite sensible and reasonable. If the data doesn't show the vaccines to be safe, then avoid them. But do so after consulting with your Health Care Provider. Staying at home, keeping good hydration and treating fevers is the wisest course with any flu. Do be alert to signs or symptoms that you have respiratory problems; flu can cause pneumonias in some instances. Pneumonias can be quite deadly for the elderly or anyone immuno-compromised. If you have a fever, you ARE hazardous to others. If you do happen to be out and about, and you have to cough, use the inside of your elbow / sleeve to contain the cough (or sneeze). DO NOT use your hands to contain a cough or sneeze; all you will do is spread the virus faster. Be rude; stop shaking hands! Use hand sanitizer when you can't wash your hands, but wash your hands frequently! Do go to find masks now -you want "N95" NIOSH approved. Practice putting them on and wearing them now so it will be smoother and easier for you later. Try to avoid visiting patients in the hospitals if you are well; ABSOLUTELY do not vist anyone in the hospital if you are ill! Last, do not confuse the regular flu shots with H1N1 vaccines. Doses of the regular flu medicine are starting to come out about now; H1N1 vaccines will be along later. As always, use good judgement and follow your doctors advice. | Mohawk Watush - Posted: September 09, 2009 I still agree with OLD NURSE. When I get the flu I plan to treat my symptons at home. It may be just the "plain ole flu" instead of the super-charged H1N1. If I should go to the hospital ER or a doctor's office, I would be likely exposed to H1N1, then come down with it as well. My current plan is not to take the shot; however, my mind could change as more information becomes available. |

| Realist - Posted: September 08, 2009 What's the worst that could happen if you don't take the shot? You might get the flu, and in a very rare situation you might die. And if you do take the shot, you might still get the flu, and in a very rare cirucumstance you might die from the flu, and in another rare circumstance, you might die from the shot. Plus, we KNOW for a fact that there are other things in the shot that we definitely don't want going into our bloodstreams, as well as some things that we don't even know may be in there too. The bottom line is that there are risks either way, and taking the shot actually has MORE RISKS than not taking the shot. Plus, the flu isn't going to infect everybody anyway, and there's a good chance you won't even get it, even if you do nothing at all. And if you do, the most likely thing to happen is that you'll miss a couple days at work, just like any other flu. This big hype is simply to sell vaccines for the big pharmceutical industry. |

| Old Nurse - Posted: September 07, 2009 In fairness, BigG, your physician will only know what the FDA allows them to know. Scientific data has been "cooked up" in the past, and may be again. Your doctor gives you his / her best recommendation based on their extensive training, education and modern scientific data. If the data is manipulated, who knows what will happen. I am not as paranoid as some on this board, butthe most brilliant minds in the world can only make decisions based on the available data. Good luck get any truth from the FDA! |

Does not matter if it's demoncrats or republicants, they all take away our freedoms drip by drip and steal money out of our wallets. All in the name of "control". If Jefferson were alive today, he would probably start an uprising and arrest most of the Senators and Congress critters in Washington. I'll bet you even money that some of them would be hanged after being found guilty of treason. Might not be a bad idea if we can ever get any of them to trial. Look, BigG, they are all lying to us about everything. Do not trust this government - or the last one, or even the next one. Always question your leaders. At least be really diligent until we can get term limits on those thieves! |

| Old Nurse - Posted: September 07, 2009 If you are aged 15 to 45 years, you should really consider taking the vaccine. Look, someone dies of WATER intoxication every year in this country. NOTHING is 100% safe except Jesus. On a side note: if you get the flu, DO NOT go the hospitals' ER's. All you will do is contaminate more people. As with any flu, dehydration must be avoided and fevers must be controlled. Get some ibuprofen, aspirin and / or acetaminophen NOW. No one can make the flu go away once you have it. Your doctor may be able to prescribe an antiviral to lessen some symptoms, so talk with your healthcare provider BEFORE you get sick. Take the vaccine, don't take the vaccine - your choice. But DO NOT come whining to Medical Personnel because you got sick. Only if you are getting worse, dehydrated, having shortness of breath or a fever greater than 101 degrees Fahrenheit THAT CANNOT BE CONTROLLED. Treat your fevers! If you get bad enough to go to your doctor, he or she will take your word for your fever. You don't want to have febrile seizures! Take this advice with a grain of salt. I am NOT a physician. Your mileage may vary. But whatever you do, don't spread the damn virus!!!! |
