Old Nurse - Posted: September 07, 2009 If you are aged 15 to 45 years, you should really consider taking the vaccine. Look, someone dies of WATER intoxication every year in this country. NOTHING is 100% safe except Jesus. On a side note: if you get the flu, DO NOT go the hospitals' ER's. All you will do is contaminate more people. As with any flu, dehydration must be avoided and fevers must be controlled. Get some ibuprofen, aspirin and / or acetaminophen NOW. No one can make the flu go away once you have it. Your doctor may be able to prescribe an antiviral to lessen some symptoms, so talk with your healthcare provider BEFORE you get sick. Take the vaccine, don't take the vaccine - your choice. But DO NOT come whining to Medical Personnel because you got sick. Only if you are getting worse, dehydrated, having shortness of breath or a fever greater than 101 degrees Fahrenheit THAT CANNOT BE CONTROLLED. Treat your fevers! If you get bad enough to go to your doctor, he or she will take your word for your fever. You don't want to have febrile seizures! Take this advice with a grain of salt. I am NOT a physician. Your mileage may vary. But whatever you do, don't spread the damn virus!!!! |
TTSI - Posted: September 07, 2009 I hope lots of people take the shots, lord knows we could stand to thin out the stupid people around here. |

mercenary - Posted: September 05, 2009 Dunno about that, vaccines. I've had vaccines I didn't like, and I sure as hell don't trust this government to get ANYTHING right, but I'll have to pass on the prison thing.... |
Vaccines - Posted: September 05, 2009 I'd rather be prison raped than take a shot that this govt provided. |
Scot - Posted: September 04, 2009 Feed the birds. They go where the food is, and the bit they get from you is just a part of their voracious appetite. As stated, they eat insects, so encouraging them to visit is good for you, and even if your pleasure of watching them, a benefit not to be scoffed at, is the only benefit, it's well worth the small cost in bird seed. There is another benefit, and it's to your whole neighborhood. The more different species of animals and plants you have around, the stronger the web of life will be. The "food chain" is a vast oversimplification. Strength is in diversity, and you promote that with your feeders. But most of all, enjoy watching the birds! My father-in-law has a robin that will almost eat out of your hand, it is so tame. |
Brenda - Posted: September 04, 2009 mercenary - I think HT was speaking metaphorically. You know, popular socialist agenda vs true conservatism? If we have Chrisitan love in our hearts, we do help our sisters and brothers, but we don't enable the demons that brought them so low to begin with. It is our duty to help them, but it is also our duty to lift them up from the gutter, to help them get off the crack pipe and become productive citizens. ( Or, off the hydrocodones and valium in our local area.) We need to restore morals, and from that will come dignity and a sense of purpose. Paying people money and giving them freebies when they misbehave will only get us more of the same behavior we seek to eradicate. So I say let's help them through the local churches and aid groups and STOP ENABLING THEM WITH GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS. As to the squirrels, yes, I too can live without them. |
mercenary - Posted: September 04, 2009 My opinion? Feed the birds, kill off the squirrels. They are only rats with bushy tails. We need all the birds we can get to keep the insect population down. |
WILD "knows some people with bird brains" WILLIE - Posted: September 03, 2009 HT, get a job. You have waaaaaaaaay too much time on your hands. :-) |
heavy thinker (HT) - Posted: September 02, 2009 I am sitting looking out our bay window at my bird "garden". It is a dileaneated garden area of approximately 350 square feet, with the center pieces being a bird bath and three bird feeders. Our birds have voracious appetites, which are approaching the "eating me out of house and home" description. But my wife and I love watching them (and the invading squirrels) munch away at the seeds, corn, and other goodies. Today, I gazed out and saw a frequent visitor (a fat redbird) pecking away at the sunflower seeds. After pondering a while, I asked myself (rhetorically) whether the redbird knew THAT IT WAS I WHO was providing those seeds. Of course, the bird had no idea from where the manna was coming. Then I asked myself, if the redbird did not know (realize) that it was I who was providing the seed, then what reward was I to receive for providing that seed? Will God reward me by a special spot in Heaven? Or will my reward just be my own personal satisfaction of knowing that maybe one little hungry bird got food. But one of my friends had another take on my bird feeding operation. She said that because I was feeding the birds on a regular basis year-over-year, the young hatchlings might feed only at my "trough" and not learn the hunting and feeding skills necessary in the wild. Hmmmmmm. What to do? The Conservative of me tells me to let the birds provide for themselves. The Liberal side of me tells me to feed the birds. ... Oh, what to do. Please tell me what I should do. |
