| mercenary - Posted: December 26, 2008 Not a physician, cc. I just presumed that most Tennesseeans think MD's have huge salaries so I used that comparison. When my car breaks, I usually fix it myself. I am an hourly worker, sir, and usually can't afford an ASE certified mechanic. Sheesh, I wish I could afford a good mechanic! Had to replace a heater core in my car recently and it was a nightmare! If you look at some of the stories coming out today (Dec 26) you will note that some union critics are angered by a multi-million dollar golf course owned by the UAW! And Rhonda Sue, your point is well taken. I was specifically addressing the UAW, but I WILL throw the NEA into the mix. My dad was a union man all his life, but they worked hard for their money and never approached anything like $22 per hour, much less $75/hour! The bottom line is simple - if the American worker prices himself out of the market, Many jobs will disappear to Canada, Mexico and overseas. |

Most of the unions in this country represent people who would be in dire straits without their representation. Henry Ford used to hire thugs to beat up protestors and workers before labor laws were the norm. But the laws came about only when unions fought for workers rights! |
| MERCENARY - Posted: December 21, 2008 Sorry to burst your bubble, cc, but I have seen all of the mentioned movies. But I also read "Atlas Shrugged." Look I have nothing against working men and women. Heck, I am one! But demanding money for NOT working, receiving exorbitant salaries and cradle to grave benefits is destroying support for unions. Are the CEO's stupid, greedy and arrogant? ABSOLUTELY! No man or woman is worth a Million dollars a year for any reason. But then, very few workers are really woth $75 bucks an hour either. I know that Doctors fees and charges equal roughly double that amount, but they are highly trained and skilled technicians. I suspect I could train almost any able bodied adult to correctly install and fit an autombile door. I do not blame the working men and women for wanting a decent salary. But I can tell you that I refuse to pay more for a dang car than I did for my house! So if the numbers I have read are correct, you could shave $5000 OR MORE off the price of any GM vehicle if the Unions backed off on benefits and wages even moderately. In my view, the Union leaders are just as corrupt and greedy as the CEO's. Do I expect the Governemnt to fix it? No. In fact, our only hope is that this entire generation of politicians dies young ( OOPS! Too Late! ) or that they argue amongst themselves so much that they get nothing done. |
