Like I said; VOLS SUCK!!! cant even beat a bunch of third stringers!! Golf has it's own channel? Guess you old men need something to watch. And I think bredesen controls 98% of vol fans insurance cards but he has nothing to do with mine.

VOLH8R: for your own personal health reasons; please don't watch the game tonight!! the golf channel will probably have some new clubs available which will help you get out of divots, if you don't use it on your head tomorrow morning. hope buch or bredesen hasn't taken your insurance card away!!

oldhacker: I have had good experience with Ubuntu (which you can download/install for free). It handles the basics great (www, email, word processing). Other things (like DVD playback) take a little tweaking.

Vista seems to be 'bout as good as the hated "Millenium Edition" ( known as Windows ME hates to most of us!) Windows had a prettty stable platform with XP and security holes got patched relatively quickly. Why the heck they wanted to mess with success is beyond me. May have to try me some Linux.

I could not agree more strongly, TTSI. Running Vista with 2 Gigs of memory and even turning off most ALL of Vista's "features", I still experience unexplained shutdowns ( no BSD, just suddenly turns OFF entire system for no reason! ) An update / tweak to Windows XP would have been far superior to this Vista crap.

I can't stress enough that Vista is a HORROR to avoided at ALL COSTS !! This OS does not even approach beta quality (i.e. it should not even have been released to *testers*, let alone foisted on the public as "finished" product). I have Vista on a secondary PC, and so use it rarely. But virtually all my attempts at using it have resulted in extreme aggravation. This is just the latest of my experiences: 1) I tried to zip a directory of ~350 megs (a task that XP would complete in 10-15 seconds), After some 4 MINUTES, I finally gave up and decided to abort by hitting CTRL-C (no response>. So I tried to abort it via Task Manager (no response). So I tried to close the command-line window in which i entered the ZIP command (no response). After some 3-4 MINUTES of repeating all of these abort attempts, Vista finally got around to aborting it. So Vista considers zipping small directories and aborting tasks to be a MAJOR undertaking. 2) I then copied this same 350-meg directory (which was on a 2nd hard disk) to the C drive (via Vista's Explorer). This operation took some 5 MINUTES, during which time the mouse was constantly freezing (if you moved the mouse, it would disappear and re-appear a few seconds later in a different place), and both the status bar and the window it contained frequently disappeared/re-appeared at random time (and for no apparent reason). And note that this was a DIRECT DISK-TO-DISK transfer that should have taken under 10 seconds. To reiterate just how slow this is, I copied this directory to my XP PC (via ethernet) in some 20 seconds. So Vista direct disk-to-disk copies are 15-TIMES SLOWER than **ethernet** transfers !! 3) Other extremely annoying "features": All the settings have been shuffled around for no apparent reason (so you can't find anything). These clueless morons decided that we did not need an UP ARROW button in Explorer. I can only assume that they thought that the BACK button would suffice (in which case they don't even know that there is a real/significant difference btw BACK and UP). That's why every other Explorer there is (incl all prev versions of Windows) *has* an up arrow ! If you were to ask Vista for the time of day, it would first ask "ARE YOU SURE ?". This is their idea of "security" - driving you nuts with ridiculous prompts every time you attempt to do something. MS's *total* lack of discipline in the way they develop software is finally catching up with it. What they now have is an unmaintainable "snake-ball" that will drive their customers to Linux and Apple (both of which are FAR-superior operating systems).
