Miss Ima, for my help I will be around your business for a Trophy Sponser for the upcoming Antique Truck Show in September.

Thank you Jerry. I will look that up and see what I can do. I know local lawyers won't even consider helping me out. I appreciate it.

Mis Ima, check with the Chattanooga Beer and Wrecker Board, it seems as they have several complaints against Carter Towing stemming back to 2007 about towing during River Bend. This was a Chattanooga Tines/Free Press item dated June 7, 2008. Not all towers do this type of towing, Several Companies frown upon "The Patrol Towers". But the Tennessee Tow Truck Association is working on stiffer rules for Private Property Towing.

TCA 66-19-103 lays out the conditions and information needed for towing. Go to www.tennessee.gov, click on Laws and Justice, then click on Laws and Rules, and read Chapter 16. I am in the process of checking the Chattanooga Government web site, but I do think that Chattanooga (City) towers are regulated in regards to pricing. Hope this helps. More to come.

Miss Ima, I am putting this out in public for informations. Tennessee Code 55-16-112 says in part "in order for a garagekeeper or a towing firm to tow or to store a vehicle the garage keeper or towing firm shall obtain an express written authorization for towing and storage of each vehicle from a law enforcement officer with appropriate jurisdiction or from the owner of the vehicle, or from the owner, or the authorized agent of the owner, of the private property from which the vehicle is to be towed. Such authorization shall include all of the information required by Section 66-19-103(d)." I will out the rest of the information in a little later.

thanks, Jerry. But do they have to sign each slip, or if there are a lot of cars that are towed off of your property, do they just have to sign one? Towing companies could make a bunch of money if they get with the right property owners and at city functions, like the fireworks display, have cars towed that are parked on someones property and split the money. There should be a cap on the amount they can charge. Anything you can find out, I would appreciate.

Miss Ima, I will dive into the Chattanooga Towing Laws tonight and e mail you a answer or a contact person in the City of Chattanooga. As Past President of the Tennessee Tow Truck Association, I have come across this problem quite often. One thing I do know, no matter what City, the Property Owner or his Designated Reprensentive MUST sign a Tow Slip.
