I wished I could have made the meeting, but I was down at the Expo Center helping the Shriners get ready for the rodeo this weekend. My shop does the hanging of the Banners for them every year. And with 4 Grand kids that is one Association that I hope and pray that I never need to call, but I know they are there if I do call.

A big THANK YOU you to everyone that attended todays called meeting regarding the Comptrollers Investigative Audit of the Athens Police Department (and to those who could not make it but were there "in spirit")! Considering the meeting lasted 2 1/2 hours and everyone in the audience persevered until the end, I owe each of you A ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!! Regardless of your opinion on this or any other subject, I want to extend my sincere thanks for taking time to be informed and involved in the process of transparent governance and "All Things Municipal" here in Athens... As always, I welcome your thoughts, comments, and concerns -- Contact me via email or by phone 507-8243 -- I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Missed it but heard you guys in the audience were causing trouble by applauding and the mayor had to quieten you down. Happened in the last twenty minutes or so maybe we can fast forward on the DPA video site.

Hope to see Jerry and JW as well as Captain something or other tomorrow morning at the meeting on the Athens PD. It will be interesting to see what in depth questions are asked by our council members and how much our city manager doesn't know or doesn't remember.

Yes it does seem as the PD does have many deeper issues to contend with. It seems as every week one see's a new officer and one of the older ones have gone to greener pastures. And I would hope that this is not going on in other departments of the City, as the City spends thousands of dollars training people for there job. At one time I was going to leave McMinn County but family matters made me stay so I am trying to help the City of Athens and McMinn County grow by holding a Antique Truck Show here instead of Chattanooga. Here in Athens I am paying $500.00 for the Expo Center where in Chattanooga the Show Area would be free. But we need something like this in town. As of right now 3 weeks into the show, I have 7 Sponsors, and around 15 trucks due to show up. Dang it is gonna be hot at Moo fest.

Jerry, You make a very good point. Unfortunately, the issues within the Athens City Police Department seem to go much deeper than their choice of radio channels... I will add this to the growing list of items that need to be brought before the council and discussed. Hopefully, there will be many changes in the near future -- not only in this dept. but throughout City Hall -- for the betterment of the community. Thank you for bringing this up -- Again, point well made. P.S. HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT MOO FEST TOMORROW!!!

Since we have a City Council member coming in here now. Maybe if the City Police was using normal radio channels, someone might have heard about the bank robbery and could have possible seen someone. I know I was just down the road from the bank, and I have a police radio in my Tow Truck, but it does not understand Donald Duck talk Also how many citizens carry and listen to a Police Scanner. There is a lot of eyes and ears that could help if we knew what was happening.

cc; We have had an idiot in office for eight years and without knowing you I bet you could do 1000% better then he did.

I took the advice of Shannon Alvey and watched the feed posted on the DPA. I sat and watched it several times. Much to My dismay I came away with some upsetting conclusions. I find the hole thing disturbing but watching our city leaders in action was even worse. It seems to me that no matter what the problem is Mr Pelley and Mrs Alvey have one aggenda. The removal of Mr Moore. And Mr. Proffit, Mr. Perkinson and Mr Buttram seem shocked into a quite lul. I watched as Mr Pelly seemed only to want to argue and make accusations while it seemed no one had the comlete set of information to argue over. I work outside of Athens and find it rather troubleing when I am asked about the monthly clown show. This is what outsiders call our city council meetings. they seem to think Mr Pelly is the ring leader of the clowns. I find it interesting that there behaviour tops that of the problems that are in the news for the most discussion. I must say there is a problem but until the elected leaders of our city get past there petty self centered desires the real problems at hand will never be correctly handled. I am sorry if I offend anyone with this but it is the way I see it as one of the voteing tax payers in this city.

SORRY for not thinking of this before but for the first time (that I know of) the DPA filmed our entire council meeting and they have posted a portion of the video on their website. To access the footage of the “Police Chiefs Report” and the council member’s questions, comments, etc. you will need to: Go to www.dailypostathenian.com -- When the page opens there will be a small box at the top of the page with “Local News Video” in red. Once you click on that, a page of local news videos will open. Scroll down to “General News Video” and you will find a box labeled as “ATHENS CITY COUNCIL – POLICE CHIEF REPORT – MAY 20, 2008”. After only one click on the box, the video will begin in a few seconds… Again, I would love to get your thoughts on this subject – via email or phone call, whichever is more convenient for you! Thank you for your interest! Shannon
